Multiples, Factors, Prime Factor Tree, LCM and HCF Level 3-4

The study of factors and multiples is not a new topic for GCSE, it starts from Key Stage 2 and continues all the way as part of studying Numbers in GCSE. The application of finding factors is when simplifying fractions and LCM is used to find a common denominator when adding/subtracting fractions.

Key Points and Common Mistakes:

  • The Lowest Common Multiple is always higher (or equal to the highest number) than two numbers. The Highest Common Factor, on the other hand, is always lower (or equal to the lower number) than two numbers.
